Is it good to have a gun in the house or not?

Yesterday, my mother-in-law's house has been rob. It is where my internet cafe operates. We lost P 7,000 worth of cash, some jewelries and some valuable items. Although all my computers were all intact, but yet we're still in shock of what had happened. I'm still trying to figure how did these thieves manage to ransack the house without notice.

My mother-in-law was very disappointed on what had happen. She was so upset, that's why she was suggesting to keep a firearm in the house. I thought she was only kidding about her suggestion, but she was dead serious about the idea.

On my opinion... although having a firearms at home will give these thieves some second thought in breaking an entry but there are other options to make your home secure. That's why instead of my plans in investing on another internet shop I will make used of these funds to secure the house and my existing internet shop.

Well, its good thing no one was harmed with this incident. But on your opinion guys... is it a good idea to keep firearms at home?

I don't advise it, unless there is someone who could handle the gun expertly, like someone in the family is a policeman. It should be kept also under lock and key where children would not be able to reach.

sorry about the robbery, very sad.

I say no to guns, but that is just me.

Oh, good that no one was harmed in the incident. For me, I don't wanna keep firearms in our house. Well Jhong, that's my opinion. But if having one will keep you and your family secure, well, you can have your second thoughts about it. But I guess the best way is to establish a secured premises, rather than having firearms :)

Our internet cafe was robbed about 3 years ago. It was just shortly after my mother passed away from a long battle with cancer. I shut down the store. I really did not have the strength to rebuild the store and continue.

Now I am looking at investing in a new shop. The thought of a firearm crossed my mind, but we have kids at the store (they love the LAN parties). For me to feel comfortable with a gun around kids, I would have to keep it in a safe. Being in a safe is not a quick and easy option if someone is breaking in. Plus, nobody would be there after hours to operate the gun (unless I built a gun cam... hmmmm...)

I am going to invest in a good alarm system with surveillance. If the flashing lights and sirens don't stop them, at least I'll have video for the cops / insurance company.

Cheers,

I don't really think it is a good idea to keep one at home. Unless it comes with a security guard. :D

I agree with Jena and Zorlone. There have been too many accidents where children have been playing with guns and killed family members. I don't think it is ever a good idea to keep a gun in the house.

Our internet café before was robbed by a Bolt-Cutter Gang in Good Friday of 2007. The full story and the subsequent court hearings of the case are subjects of my blogs at http://xicowner.jefmart.com/. In spite of that, I don't go for having gun at home nor at work.

A bit off-topic but I have to say that I am looking for blogs that I could exchange links with. I want those related to my niche blogs about the internet cafe business in the Philippines. Can you please look at the site mentioned above and see if you want to exchange links with me.

Thank you.
